Annual Poetry Contest
Gig Harbor/Key Peninsula Arbor Day
is sponsoring its annual Poetry Contest
HERE ARE THE RULES:
- Contest is open to all grades 6th, 7th, & 8th grade students currently residing in the greater Gig Harbor/Key Peninsula areas.
- Poems must be received by March 24, 2010.
- Poems should be about trees and how they impact our world.
- Entry blanks should be stapled to the BACK of the poem. One poem per entry blank, although students may submit more than one poem. Poems should be typed on white paper using a standard 12-point serif typeface such as Times New Roman. No graphics please.
- Poems must be original. There must be a title at the top and author’s full name at the bottom. Poems can be any length and in any style.
- Send to CAROL ALEX at Peninsula High School through the district pony/email OR mail entry to the following address: GHKP Arbor Day,
P.O. Box 1493, Gig Harbor, WA 98335. - Entries will be judged on originality, relevance, style, grammar and spelling.
- First place winner and teacher will each receive a $50 cash prize. Second place will receive $25 each, and third place $15 each. Awards will be presented and poets invited to read their poems on April 24, 2010 at the Civic Center during the Celebration.
- The top 20 poems will be published in a commemorative Arbor Day booklet available during our Arbor Day event.
